Food and Scenic Highlights from Nelson

by admin on January 28, 2013

Hi!

So part of my time spent in New Zealand I stayed in Nelson, NZ for 6 nights. I decided the best way to recap my time in Nelson was to show you all some of the food and touring high lights because I took WAY too many pictures to share them all with you!

First up..the FOOD

New Zealand has a lot of Indian and Thai food restaurants which is A-Okay by me because they are two of my favorite ethnic cuisines!

One night in Nelson we went to a Thai restaurant named Chokdee. My friend and I split the chicken red curry

One of the best currys I have EVER had. It was amazing!

Next up. Indian! Let me just tell you this was some of the best indian food I have ever had. I went to the same restaurant two nights in a row. It was THAT good.

The first night my friends and I split garlic naan, palak paneer, mango chicken, and chicken tikka masala. The next night we got all of the above but added an order of butter chicken to it. It was all phenomenal. I think my favorite will always be the palak paneer though!

The first night in Nelson we went to a local brewery to grab a quick dinner. I order the Haloumi salad. Haloumi is a type of greek cheese. The salad came with pears, some sort of chopped vegetable mixture, and balsamic dressing. Delish!

And guess what I found in Nelson…a self serve fro yo shop. I know. DANGER DANGER. I visited the shop 2 times…okay maybe 3. The first night my small fro yo cost me 6 DOLLARS. ugh. But the best part about it..the liquid nutella you can put on top. LIQUID NUTELLA!

yum. yum. yum.

On our way to Nelson we stopped at a cute restaurant along the water for some mussel tasting. The mussels were pretty good but they definitely weren’t enough for a full meal so a lot of us ordered other items off the menu. I ordered the mushroom soup. I couldn’t even come close to finishing the bowl but it was amazing!

The mussels came with all different toppings. I prefer to have mussels with broth but they were still pretty tasty.

Now onto the beautiful scenic pictures!

One day we all took a trip to Abel Tazman national park. We took a ferry to one side of the park and hiked 7 miles through the park. It was awesome.

The views from the hike were unreal

We stopped along the way for a picnic lunch of PB + J sandwiches. We got to stop at a beach along the way to catch some rays as well

I clearly didn’t get the “lets make scary faces” memo. lol. WOOPS.

The first part of the hike was the hardest because it was all uphill. But the rest of the hike was relatively flat. The views were so rewarding though!

look how cool that rock is!

Another day we ventured to the geographical center point of New Zealand. It was about a 30 minute hike up to the top

IMG_5535

It was pretty steep!

IMG_5539

But we made it!

I felt like I could just fly away!

I almost forgot to mention my white water rafting trip!

Here are some pictures!

A group of 15 of us went. It was freaking awesome. I had been white water rafting once before but doing it in New Zealand made it 10 times cooler and more fun. Our rafting guide was so much fun (even though he seemed to like to push me out of the boat) Notice the picture where we are tipping. I’m the one that is already in the water when everyone else is in the boat..lol

Next recap is another day of wine tasting!

in less than 3 days from now I’ll be on my way back to the states!

What did you think of Haloumi? I had never heard of it until moving to Kuwait. I think it’s pretty good :)

… 3 more days? I feel like you JUST got there.
