So I originally wrote this post as a guest post that I did on Lee’s Blog, but decided I would do a little re cap due to a request from a reader!
Oatmeal is the best breakfast in my opinion. It is what I’ve found keeps me full the longest. Satiated belly= happy Chelcie
I have struggled with disordered eating habits in the past, and use to only let myself eat x-amount of calories for each meal. I was always scared to consume a lot of calories at breakfast, because I wanted to make sure I saved enough for the rest of the day. It definitely did NOT work out well…I was hungry ALL of the time
Once I discovered healthy living blogs, I began to develop a new mentality of eating whole, natural foods that kept my body nourished and satisfied. Eating whole, unprocessed foods has helped me get out of my disordered eating habits, and now I almost ALWAYS start my day off with a big bowl of Oatmeal.
These would be Oats in a Jar..they taste pretty magical
Oatmeal is high in protein, fiber, and is a complex carbohydrate that will give you energy and keep you’re belly satisfied. Eating a filling breakfast is SO important, especially for a college student because you sometimes have to wait a while until your next meal! ( sitting in class for 4 hours straight….not so fun) Oh and the best part about oatmeal..There are SO many different delicious combinations.
My classic Overnight Oat recipe is as follows:
1/3 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup water
1/3 cup almond milk (or any other milk would work)
½ thinly sliced banana
Optional add ins: 1tsp ground flax meal, 1tsbp protein power of choice, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract
I combine all the ingredients in a soup pan over medium heat, cover the pan, and allow the mixture to cook for about 5 minutes. Then I put the oats in a Jar or bowl, and place in the fridge overnight. You can also go ahead and eat these right away if you want! I just like my oats coldJ I am literally in love with oatmeal, its SO yummy! Here are some of my favorite varieties I’ve come up with
Classic topped with pb + jelly + shredded coconut + fresh blueberries
Maple Sweet Potato Oats
These are some of my favorite combinations..and I’m still working to come up with more!
I plan on spending my saturday studying and eventually dragging myself to the gym
But what I really want to do is crawl in bed and sleep all day #pathetic
Tonight is my Semi Formal for my sorority, which will be fun! I’ll hopefully have some good pictures to share!
